The superyacht market, in figures.

A price, a shipyard or a timeline should not be advised on instinct. Here are the figures I follow for my clients, with their sources.

The fleet

More than 6,000 yachts, eight in ten of them under 50m.

In early August 2025, SuperYacht Times counted 6,174 superyachts over 30m in operation: 5,259 motor yachts and 915 sailing yachts.

Above 60m, you enter a circle of fewer than one yacht in ten, where every boat is known to the market.

On the same date, 1,080 pre-owned yachts over 30m were for sale, around 17% of the fleet.

New construction

More than one yacht in two is built in Italy.

Boat International's Global Order Book 2026 counts 1,093 yachts of 24m and above on order or in build, for a combined 44,637m. That is 45 projects fewer than a year earlier, but the average length rises to 40.8m.

Italy accounts for 568 projects. Northern Europe builds fewer yachts, but larger ones: the average length reaches 65.8m in the Netherlands and 100m in Germany (which countries build the best yachts).

67 projects exceed 76m.

Transactions

2025: sales up by almost 20%.

According to BOATPro, 470 yachts of 24m and above changed hands in 2025, against 392 in 2024. Resales account for 438 transactions, new yachts for 32. The average length sold is stable, at 36.95m.

France is the second country in the world by number of sales concluded, behind the United States (why the French Riviera remains Europe's first market).

By value, sales of yachts over 80 feet reached about 9 billion dollars, and close to 1.1 billion dollars of asking-price reductions were recorded during the year.

Charter, refit and shows

More than a third of the fleet is offered for charter.

In February 2025, Fraser Yachts counted 3,832 yachts available for charter, including 2,155 over 30m: 36% of the fleet in operation.

Refit yards recorded about 2,200 visits by yachts over 30m in 2024. The United States took 21% of them and Spain 20%.

The 2026 Monaco Yacht Show, the 35th edition, announced around 120 superyachts on display from 23 to 26 September, 43 of them delivered during the year. The largest measured 102m.

My reading

What these figures change for you.

If you are buying

With almost one yacht in six for sale, there is plenty of choice. The difficulty is not finding a boat, but ruling out those that are not worth their price. That is the job of the shortlist and the survey.

If you are selling

The market is active, but it punishes off-market prices: more than a billion dollars of reductions in 2025. A yacht correctly positioned from day one sells better than a yacht reduced three times.

If you are building

Choosing a shipyard commits you for several years. Italy offers the widest range between 30 and 50m; Northern Europe remains the reference for the largest yachts. A yard's order book says a great deal about its real delivery times.
