New yacht or pre-owned yacht?

It depends above all on two things: your budget and what you really want to do with your boat.

New

Your decoration, your materials, the latest technology, a shipyard warranty. It is the right choice if you want a yacht exactly as you imagine her.

But you have to accept depreciation, and it varies enormously from one yacht to another. A production boat can lose value quickly. A full custom yacht built by a major yard, with several years of waiting, will hold her value far better. In some very particular cases, she resells at the purchase price, or even slightly above.

Pre-owned

For the same budget, you often buy bigger and avoid years of waiting.

Here too, it is impossible to put everything in the same category. A one-year-old yacht keeps depreciating gradually. An older yacht has often already absorbed most of that drop. It all depends on the yard, the model, the maintenance, the engine hours, the works carried out and the market at the time of resale.
